ACDSee is the essential application for acquiring, organizing, viewing, enhancing, and sharing your digital photos and other media files.
ACDSee's Browser lets you copy photos from your camera to your computer, categorize and rate your files, and manage photo collections of any size - from a few hundred to a few hundred thousand. Find your pictures faster with the new Quick Search bar.
Finding your photos is fast and easy with the new Quick Search feature. All you have to do is type in a word (not case sensitive), and ACDSee returns matches for that word in image captions, author information, and notes. You can also choose to include any matches found in file names, keywords, categories, and folders.
Video slide shows with custom audio.
Use the new Create Video or VCD (Video Compact Disc) feature to put your creative slide shows to music, and watch them on your television or PC. VCD supports NTSC and PAL television formats, and your saved videos can be played back in any media application. Save and reuse VCD projects, and even watch a live preview of the slide show you’re working on.
Add several different slide show projects to the same CD, and conveniently burn original images to CD as well. Mix multiple audio tracks with high-resolution photo images and video into your slide shows, without the hassle of learning overly complicated software. ACDSee also lets you set your slide show to fit the length of any audio track using a handy timeline view.
Create CDs and DVDs quickly and easily.
The new Burn Basket makes creating CDs and DVDs drag-and-drop easy. Individual photos or entire folders - you name it, the Burn Basket can take it. Make hard copies of your photo collections faster than ever before, then give them as gifts to family and friends.
Improve organization by creating new folders within the Burn Basket, and update ACDSee Photo Discs on multi-session CDs and DVDs. Easily manage your disc space by checking the updated estimate of the size of the disc, and how much space will be used up by your current project.
The Burn Basket completely eliminates the need for a third-party burning tool, and can also be used to create archives and backups of your files.

View and edit your IPTC information and overlay it on any photo in the Viewer, or on thumbnails in the browser. Display IPTC info in your slide shows, or sort your file lists and compare images based on IPTC data.

Improved mouse and keyboard functionality allow for easier pausing and scrolling through your slides. Create slide shows with associated audio files, mix multiple audios, and save time by setting the same audio, transition, and caption to multiple selected images.
Protect your photo folders
With the Sync feature, synchronize folders on your PC with network folders or an external hard drive to protect you from local hard drive failure. You can even synchronize multiple folders and schedule when the synchronizations occur.
Control EXIF information for large numbers of photos
Being able to control your photos in batches saves you valuable time and effort. Batch Set Information allows you to update EXIF (Image Description, Artist, Copyright etc.) and database (caption, date/time, author, notes etc.) information, and view previews of new values for any number of images all at once.
Working with large numbers of photos simultaneously is a breeze. Create new keywords and categories, copy values from one file to another (e.g., copy database notes to EXIF comments), map values from one file to another, and create and apply stored text on a field-by-field basis.
Improved Help
The Start up screen provides an introductory overview of features to help new users get started quickly. The Task Pane provides easy access to common features, so you don’t have to search through the menus.
ACDSee 8 Photo Manager is a fast, powerful, and easy-to-use image management system that everyone from beginners to professionals can use and enjoy.
After you install ACDSee on your computer, an application icon is placed on the desktop and in the Start menu.The ACDSee user interface provides easy access to the various tools and features you can use to browse, view, edit, and manage your photos and media files. ACDSee consists of three main parts: the Browser, the Viewer, and Edit Mode.
The Browser
The ACDSee Browser is the main browsing and managing component of the user interface, and is what you see when you start ACDSee using the shortcut icon on your desktop. In the Browser, you can find, move, preview, and sort your files, and access organization and sharing tools.
The Browser consists of 12 panes, most of which can be closed when not in use. The File List pane is always visible, and displays the contents of the current folder, the results of your latest search, or the files in your database that match your filtering criteria. A status bar at the bottom of the Browser window displays information about the currently selected file, folder, or category.
The Browser also features two toolbars: the main toolbar, which provides shortcuts to commonly-used commands, and the context-sensitive toolbar, which provides different shortcuts depending on what is currently selected in the Browser.
You can open and close panes, move them to different areas of your screen, and stack them on other panes or dock them to the edge of the Browser. Most panes also have additional options you can set to further customize their behavior and appearance.
The Viewer
The ACDSee Viewer plays media files and displays images in full resolution, one at a time. You can also open panes in the Viewer to view image properties, display areas of an image at varying magnifications, or examine detailed color information.
You can open the Viewer directly by double-clicking an associated file type in Windows Explorer, and you can use the Viewer to flip quickly between all of the images in a folder. The Viewer contains a toolbar with shortcuts to commonly-used commands, and a status bar at the bottom of the Viewer window, which displays information about the current image or media file.
Edit Mode
You can open your images in ACDSee’s Edit Mode to adjust or enhance them using the editing tools and effects.
Edit Mode displays the available tools on the Edit Panel, a customizable menu that can be closed or hidden when not in use. Clicking the name of a tool on the menu opens that tool in the Edit Panel, where you can adjust the settings to edit or enhance your image. You can use myACD to manage your ACD Systems software. With it, you can check the status of your software, enter a license code to update your trial versions, and download other products to try or buy.The myACD Control Panel displays a list of currently installed software, and whether that software is a trial or full version. You can purchase software and even update your trials to a full version. You can also view a list of additional products that you can download and install on your hard drive.
With the ACDSee 8 Media Support Package, a free ACDSee add-in, you can create CDs and DVDs, and enrich your slide shows with audio.
Once you install the ACDSee 8 Media Support Package, you can burn your images, media files, and database backups to CDs or DVDs with the Create Disc Wizard, and create video files and VCDs with the Create Video or VCD Wizard. You can also add audio files to your slide shows and multimedia presentations. You do not need to adjust any settings or options, and no additional menus or plug-ins are added to ACDSee.
The Edit Mode also contains a status bar, which displays information about the image you are editing.You can customize many of the features in ACDSee, and adjust them to suit your specific working preferences, by changing the options in the ACDSee Options dialog box.You can adjust settings in the ACDSee Options dialog box to customize ACDSee's InTouch and update connections, display helpful tips, set date displays, and control the display of certain image types. You can customize the appearance and organization of the main toolbars in the Browser and Viewer windows by selecting which toolbars to display, and specifying each toolbar’s buttons or commands. You can also discard your changes and reset the toolbars to their default layout at any time. You can configure ACDSee to work with a variety of image editors, such as Canvas, and specify which image editor ACDSee uses by default. You can then open images in any of your image editing applications from within ACDSee.
You can use ACDSee to download images from your digital camera, scanner, mobile phone, or other removable device. You can also use ACDSee to capture images of your screen and save them as files.
With ACDSee, there are several ways to obtain images from your digital camera, scanner, or memory card. For more information about how your device communicates with your computer, please consult your device's Help file or manual. The different types of removable devices are:
USB mass storage device: mass storage devices include removable memory cards that you can attach to your computer using a USB card reader, and cameras that contain an internal memory card, and can be attached directly to your computer. USB Mass Storage devices are detected by your system as a removable drive.
Windows Image Acquisition: cameras and scanners that use Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) drivers.
TWAIN: cameras and scanners that use the TWAIN interface. TWAIN-supported devices use TWAIN drivers that you must install on your computer to communicate with the device. For more information about drivers, and whether or not your device uses TWAIN, please consult your device's Help file.
Older model digital cameras: some older model cameras require an ACD Systems digital camera plug-in. Newer camera models connect to your computer as a mass storage device, or with TWAIN or WIA drivers, and do not require a camera plug-in.
You can use the ACDSee Device Detector to access the photos stored on your camera, scanner, mass storage device, or CD and display them using ACDSee.
After you start the ACDSee Device Detector, it runs in the background and displays a camera icon in the Taskbar Notification area. When you plug a camera or other device into your computer, the Device Detector detects the connection, the icon changes color, and either prompts you to specify what you would like to do with your images, or automatically launches the Photo Transfer Wizard or the Get Photos Wizard.
The ACDSee Device Detector can also detect when you insert a CD into your CD-ROM drive, or attach a mass storage or Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) device to your computer. Such devices may include cameras, card readers, Web cams, and scanners.
If your device does not have a TWAIN or WIA driver installed, is not a mass storage device, or if there are no files on your device, ACDSee Device Detector will not be able to detect it.
